Self Care...Don't Care

In order for me to be the best mom and career woman I can be...I HAVE to take time for self care.

Look...I have ALWAYS ALWAYS made time for myself. I knew that when I had my daughter that not only was it not going to change, but that self care became a MUST to function properly. I went and got a manicure and pedicure two weeks after having the #Minime.

Transparent moment: my mom was not happy that I went to get my nails done so soon after the baby was born, but I did what I had to do. I breast fed my daughter until she was 15 months...we are good and bonded:-)

Because I am a #SMOM who must split time between my ex husband, I get every other weekend off. While the situation is not ideal, I do what I can to make the most of it. Part of that is taking the time to do some much needed #selfcare.

Nails Done...

Once a month, I schedule an appointment to go get a manicure and pedicure. I drink wine. I talk to my nail artist/therapist. I leave much more rested and ready to take on the #SMOM life.

Hair Done...

Next...is someone to do this mane. I am a #NaturalHair gal, but I like my hair straightened and I do not know how to do my #NaturalHair. Additionally, I have to do a little #NaturalHair girl's hair twice a day-I need some reprieve before I get arthritis from doing all this thick #NaturalHair.

I do not schedule an appointment to see my guy, Muhammad. I tend to go early mornings when no one else is there-plus, I am so used to getting up early that I do not know how to sleep in so might as well get my #hairdid lol

Everything Did...

Massaged Momma

I am not into gyms. Do not get me wrong...I like to walk and run and frequently use the free gym at my job, but I have found paying for a gym membership has always proved a waste of my funds. HOWEVER, a membership to Massage Envy has proven itself MORE than useful. I get a massage once a month. This is so helpful to me as I carry headaches in my shoulders-that's masseuse talk btw lol:-p

Be sure to drink plenty of water...lots of toxins are released during a massage and you will need to flush them. I did not drink enough water earlier this year and I ended up with a very bad sinus infection that left me without a voice for two weeks along with an ear infection. My throat is STILL healing.

It's not pretty...but I also use my weekends to get my bikini waxed. The less I have to do in the shower, the more time I have to either hang with Sloane or just chill. I have been getting bikini waxes for eight years now. I have used all types of waxes and methods, but my FAVE is European Wax. Their wax does not rip the skin and really does hurt less...still hurts...just less.

One Thread at a Time...

Again...the less I have to do on my own...the more time I can either spend with my little one or handling other business. I get my eyebrows threaded every three weeks. I have gotten my eyebrows threaded for ten years now-thanks to my good friend Veronica-and have yet to look back. I love the fact it keeps my natural shape. Threading does take time to get used to, but the benefits exceed the pain.

Don't wont know scrub...Unless it's a face scrub...

This is actually something I do weekly. If I have a special meeting or event, I will do it daily. You can either make your own scrub or purchase one. Traditionally, I make my own using:

  • Sugar

  • Water

  • Coffee

  • Honey

  • Vitamin E Oil

Shop the perfect #facescrub recipe online.

I did recently purchase a scrub from Trader Joe's that I am really enjoying. It contains Lavender.

To get that extra #glow, rub some Vitamin E Oil on the skin after using your scrub.

...And Everything Else DID...

Occasionally, I do things like attend wine festivals. Hang with friends. Take a quick trip. Or JUST CHILL.

Wine Festival and #Bday Hangs

Quick Trip to NYC to reunite with College Friends and Meet New Friends

Let's be honest, I am also cleaning our place from top to bottom. Doing laundry. Changing bed sheets. Picking out clothes for the week and reviewing the week's schedule. BUT...these things get done with much more enthusiasm when I make sure to take care of me from top to bottom.
